Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 25, 2026

PokeNova TCG ("we", "us", "our") is a Pokémon Trading Card Game retailer based in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, operating pokenova.ca. We take your privacy seriously and we handle personal information in accordance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and what control you have over it. If you have questions after reading it, email us at support@pokenova.ca.

What we collect

  • Order and contact information — your name, email address, shipping address, billing address, and phone number if you provide one.
  • Order history — what you bought, when, order totals, and any returns or exchanges.
  • Payment information — handled by our payment processor, not by us. We never see or store your full card number. We only receive a confirmation that payment succeeded, plus the last four digits and card type.
  • Account information — if you create an account, your login credentials and saved preferences.
  • Messages you send us — the contents of emails or contact form submissions, so we can help you.
  • Technical and usage information — IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, and referring site, collected automatically through cookies and similar technologies.

Why we collect it

We only collect what we need to run the store:

  • To process and ship your order, and to communicate with you about it.
  • To handle returns, replacements, refunds, and customer support.
  • To arrange local pickup at HRM-area card shows or our Dartmouth/Lower Sackville pickup points, when you request it.
  • To detect and prevent fraud and to keep the store secure.
  • To meet our legal and tax record-keeping obligations.
  • To send you marketing emails — only if you have opted in. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any marketing email, and doing so will not affect emails about orders you have already placed.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not rent or trade our customer list.

Who we share it with

We share personal information only with service providers who need it to help us operate, and only for that purpose:

  • Shopify — hosts pokenova.ca and processes orders on our behalf. Shopify's handling of your data is described in its own Consumer Privacy Policy.
  • Payment processors — to authorize and settle your payment securely.
  • Canada Post — receives your name and shipping address so we can deliver your order.
  • Email service providers — to send order confirmations and, if you have opted in, marketing emails.

We may also disclose information where required by law, in response to a valid legal request, or to protect our rights, our customers, or public safety.

Selling on other platforms

We also sell through eBay and Whatnot. If you buy from us there, that platform collects your information under its own privacy policy, and we receive only what the platform passes to us to fulfill your order. This policy covers pokenova.ca and our direct dealings with you.

Cookies

pokenova.ca uses cookies and similar technologies to keep your cart working, remember you between visits, and understand how the site is used so we can improve it. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but some parts of the store — the cart and checkout in particular — will not work properly without them.

Where your information is stored

Our store runs on Shopify, and some of our service providers operate outside Canada. That means your personal information may be stored or processed in other countries, including the United States, and may be accessible to law enforcement and authorities in those jurisdictions under their local laws. We only work with providers that maintain appropriate safeguards.

How long we keep it

We keep order records for as long as we need them for the purpose they were collected, and as long as required by Canadian tax and business record-keeping law. Marketing contact information is kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Account information is kept until you ask us to close your account.

Security

We protect your information using safeguards appropriate to its sensitivity, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and access controls that limit who can view customer data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security — please don't send us sensitive information like full card numbers by email.

Your rights

Under PIPEDA, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
  • Withdraw consent to our use of your information, subject to legal and contractual limits — for example, we still need to keep records of completed orders.
  • Request deletion of information we no longer need to keep.
  • Ask questions about how we handle your information and receive a meaningful answer.

Email support@pokenova.ca to exercise any of these. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request, and we'll respond within 30 days as PIPEDA requires.

Children

Our store isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of majority in their province without a parent or guardian's involvement. If you're a parent or guardian and believe your child has given us their information, contact us at support@pokenova.ca and we'll delete it.

Complaints

If you have a concern about how we've handled your personal information, contact us first at support@pokenova.ca — we'd much rather hear from you and fix it directly. If you're not satisfied with our response, you have the right to file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as our business changes or as required by law. The revised version will be posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date.
